What Root Canal Treatment Involves
Protecting Your Natural Tooth
Thorough cleaning and irrigation remove infection while preserving as much healthy natural tooth structure as possible. Sodium hypochlorite 5%, Chlorhexidine 2% and Normal Saline are used during irrigation. In infected or smelly canals, intracanal medicaments are injected and left for a fortnight in highly infected teeth. Obturation then closes the canals using ideal, high-quality Root Canal Sealers. Infected dentine is removed and a permanent filling is placed over the remaining tooth structure before the final crown is placed.
Once the canals are cleaned and sealed, the tooth is restored to help it withstand normal chewing. The aim is to remove the source of infection while preserving as much healthy natural tooth structure as possible.
